PS_GPS Wanderings and Clean up April 10, 2018

 Elders Manass and Allen were following their car GPS in the dark right into a farmer's field in Starkville, MS, 2 1/2 hours away. They thought if they could keep going they could get traction, but ended up driving 100 yards until landing right in a ditch!! They traded back and forth pushing and driving until covered in mud and were able to get a ride home from some ward members, leaving the stuck vehicle with Elder Barker's phone number on the center of the steering wheel!!  The next morning when the farmer discovered the car, he called Elder Barker's phone number yelling, "Why is your car in my field?" Elder Barker finally got to the bottom of the story and set up a date with Elder Ensign and Elder Barfuss to go dig out the vehicle and repair the road.  Steve bought 3 shovels, 3 rakes, a tow strap and all of them met the Elders for a day of labor.(Elders wanted to invite other Elders to help, but Elder Baker refused telling them, "It's not day of play, you need to fix your damage.", Steve backed the pick up to the back of the car with 20 feet of tow strap between truck and car rear ends. Elder Barker put the car in reverse as Steve pulled him out of the ditch while the Elders watched.  Then it took almost 2 hours to repair the road as all 5 of them raked and shoveled.  What an experience!!

Zone Conferences and Missionary Miracles

      Five Zone Conferences in Birmingham, Inverness, Mongomery, Tupelo and Huntsville happening over the next eight days.  Elder and Sister Barfuss enjoyed the Birmingham Zone Conference and were spiritually fed.       Missionary miracles shared by the young missionaries is always one of the favorite parts of the training.      Two Elders had a Sunday afternoon appointment cancellation and after consulting their area book, biked up and down tough hills to deliver a Book of Mormon to an investigator.  She had a dream the night before that her Book of Mormon would arrive and it happened!!  They were able to set up appointments to teach her and were excited about the opportunity!!      A "ministering angel" brother asked the missionaries to visit a less active family 10 miles away!  The Elders were only allowed 9 miles a day to keep within their mileage allotment after figuring in all the other meetings and service they had to drive to. Zone Conference with Elder Klebingat

Instead of 5 Zone Conferences, we had two(Inverness and Gardendale) with Elder Klebingat.  President Sainsbury picked him up at the airport Wednesday night, took him to dinner and to his hotel.  I enjoyed sitting at his table and finding out he and his wife have three children and he served his mission in Colorado, but grew up in Germany.  He was a Mission President and a Stake President in the past.  He instructed President and Sister Sainsbury on the car rides to and from Tupelo's Stake Conference and had a very open and matter of fact style.      President Ballard assigns President Klebingat and delegates to him the Apolstolic keys to function.  He said, "The Lord does not waste time, He has high expectations and is focused. The Lord loves you and when we don't talk about things or address issues it is a selfish thing to protect ourselves.  We lack courage and say, "I was afraid to hurt feelings!"
