New Missionaries, Transfers, Zone Conferences-Happy Valentine's Day!!
The nurses interview all the new missionaries and fill out release of information and become case managers for some of the missionaries with pre-existing conditions. It turns into a great deal of work sometimes, but helps the medical and mental health care flow well later. All four nurses have been really busy facilitating missionaries, insurance cards, IDs, previous doctor notes and making appointments.
Sister Barfuss handed out bookmarks to the new missionaires and told them each knot represents a trial that they learn something from. At the end of their mission, they will have a beautiful part of their life to look back on. Rosie helped Sister Dillard with nursing orientation. Sister Sainsbury's cook became ill, so Rosie enjoyed helping with the dinner for the missionaries headed home at the Sainsbury 's home.
During the Mongomery Zone Conference, one of our Elders sat at the lunch table with Elder and Sister Barfuss and other senior missionaries and shared his story. ...
He had a bike accident and his right wrist was very swollen. Both Sister Dillard and Sister Barfuss thought it was just a bad sprain and not broken because his sensation was good and he had no tingling or numbness with good range of motion. The missionary was told to take Ibuprofen with food, buy a wrist splint to stabilize and allow the wrist to heal using RICE(Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation). He agreed to the plan and was really concerned about shaking Elder Anderson's hand and all the other leaders. When he went to shake Elder Anderson's hand, the missionary felt energy flow through him and he had absolutely no wrist pain. From that moment his wrist was healed and he never had to even buy the splint. This was a miracle that the Elder didn't even expect, but it happened!! He agreed to write up his story for our mission newsletter. Later we noticed his companion had a wrist splint on his broken wrist from seeing urgent care after a bike wheelie!!!
Sister Barfuss just finished reading "Light in the Wilderness" by M. Catherine Thomas that was inspiring, encouraging and motivating. MC Thomas has served six missions with her husband and they are both retired BYU professors.
Elder and Sister Barfuss moved Elder and Sister Christenson from Jasper to Hamilton with two missionaries help loading up. All six of us worked together and had things all loaded in a little over an hour!! In Hamilton, some of the branch members helped us unload into Sister Minter's rental home. She serves as Stake R S President and her kids just moved out before Elder Barfuss found it. They live on 30 acres and it is such a peaceful lovely place with brand new flooring, W&D.
We were able to make the Tupelo Zone Conference in time for a great enchilada lunch. Elder Barfuss did his presentation on apartment cleaning and we gave away "Golden Dustpan" awards to the most improved and cleanest apartments. Sister Barfuss reviewed the otc meds and doctor visit protocols/insurance/copays with the missionaries.
President Sainsbury explained the hymn, "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy" how the Savior is the lighthouse and we are the lower lights. When we align ourselves with the Savior, it represents the seaman who lines up the lower lights with the lighthouse beam to make it safely into the harbor. The fresh water river, forming the inlet harbor does not allow coral to grow, so the passage is safe where boats won't wreck on the reef. I learn something new every day!!
We found a hotel in Booneville for the night, inspected a Sister's apartment and had a lovely visit. Wednesday morning we were in Selmer, TN moving two other Sister missionaries to Corinth, MS. We had no other help loading and it was a lot of work, but a couple of branch members helped us in Corinth and unloading went quick. Elder Barfuss had to make two visits for each apartment to the utility companies and prove with a contract that need for water and electricity were legitimate.
On our way home, Christensen's fed us a nice late lunch of Chili and fresh bread for a Valentine's treat. Sister Christensen was making fresh cookies and served them hot with Bluebell ice cream!!
They already fed the missionaries lunch(her great nephew and his companion) and had met twice with the branch and started to work in MLS!! She gave us a caramel apple for a special Valentine's surprise. With her Kitchenaid, she bakes bread everyday, so there is plenty for her to share as they make all their visits!! We think they are so amazing!!
