Missing President Monson and Welcoming President Nelson
I shed some tears while reading President Uchtdorf's tribute to President Monson on the church website. It was a relief to me that he did not have to struggle with the fallout from diabetes any longer and he is united with his dear wife and extended generations of his family. President Sainsbury wrote a wonderful letter to the missionaries about the process of changing the leadership mantle of the Prophet and the First Presidency that follows:
President Monson and The Living Christ

Dear Missionaries,
We have all been saddened with the death of President Monson. What a wonderful Prophet and leader! I will forever remember his example, his optimism, his stories, and his call to come to the rescue of Heavenly Father's children. He is the prophet who approved all of our mission calls. You will always have a fond place in your heart for this great prophet of your youth who has influenced you so much. We now have the opportunity to sustain a new prophet, President Russell M. Nelson. He is currently the President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
When the Prophet dies, the First Presidency is dissolved. The two former counselors take their proper place in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and the President of the Twelve becomes the President of the Church. After the funeral of President Monson, the First Presidency will be reorganized with President Nelson as Prophet and he will choose two counselors. They could be President Eyring and President Uchtdorf or they could be new counselors, depending on whom the Lord wants.
It is an exciting time. As the new year begins, we are entering a new era with a new prophet. But rest assured that it is the same church, under the direction of the Savior. He is in charge. He determines who the prophet will be. He is at the head. For this knowledge and testimony we are eternally grateful.
At Christmas, we gave each of you a pocket-size written laminated copy of The Living Christ. Sister Sainsbury and I challenge all of you, in preparation of the visit by Elder Klebingat of the First Quorum of the Seventy in April, to memorize The Living Christ. It is broken down by month to help memorize it in smaller sections. We feel this will be a great blessing to the mission and will help prepare us for his visit. It will be a blessing to us individually.
How we love all of you! We are so blessed to be able to associate with such wonderful missionaries. As we participated in our hour of mighty prayer at the conclusion of our fast Sunday between 4:00 and 5:00, each of you were the focus of our prayers, asking God to bless you and strengthen you with the challenges that you each face. God loves you. We love you. Thank you for your wonderful dedication and devotion to our Savior. He truly is the Light, and Life and Hope of the world. Have a great week.
Love President Sainsbury
