New Missionaries/Transfers

We enjoyed meeting the new 12 missionaries and training them on health needs/ apartment orientation/ cars/ and protocols. The nurses interviewed all the newbies while President interviewed them on by one. This is a very healthy bunch of missionaries!!  Transfers were the same day, only in the afternoon as training our new ones, so it was very busy. (Almost like a social party) Later President and Sister Sainsbury were training new leaders, so we waited a while longer for transfers to occur.  During the wait, I was able to visit one on one with several departing sister missionaries and share Christmas cards and let them choose one of my crocheted book marks.  It is easy to love these young missionaries and see wonderful potential as they devote their lives in service to the Savior.
One new missionary has a Great Uncle and Great Aunt serving here in member support that came to welcome him.  Steve and Rosie know this young man's grandparents from the old Eagle Ward!!  We also have another missionary(sister)from Star Valley, WY where Rosie's sister and brother in law live!!  It is great fun to make these connections.  We had Elder Featherstone and his companion over for dinner last Saturday and Elder Barfuss shared how President Featherstone was his seminary teacher(his grandpa)!!  Way fun to interact with these wonderful young missionaries and support the work!!
Elder Harris, new missionary in Sylacauga Sunday Branch meeting was blessing the Sacrament with Elder Sobrio and participating in the linger longer Christmas potluck dinner afterwards.(It was a lovely meal)  There was a Mother/daughter and four small children who came after church to share the dinner and received two bags of wrapped gifts from the visiting high counsel speaker.  One of the branch members husband and less active daughter  joined us also for dinner and we enjoyed getting to visit with them a little.

The emotions run from tears to laughter and excitement when the new companionships are announced!!  I think it is kind of like a ballet of sorts, seeing the coming and going, new trainers, different cars/change of apartments/areas to serve. It truly is amazing to witness!! A miracle really!!
Elder Barfuss has been kept on his toes opening and closing certain apartments as the need arises.
We had help from one set of Elders on Friday to move out of an apartment no longer needed.  It took several hours and we had to also clean it from top to bottom.  Now we found out that one of our Elders couldn't get his passport renewed and will need this apartment with another companion for six weeks.  So we will have to move furniture/kitchen supplies back into it!!!
Elder Barfuss opened a new apartment in Hueytown and it took three trips there and three to downtown Birmingham to finalize the paperwork.(Birmingham Electric has an Electra statue on the top of their art deco building we saw)  He had a Christmas miracle occur when he was able to assume an existing contract in Tuscaloosa in one trip.  A busy college town rarely has anything available and this opened up just in time to snatch!!  Truly amazing!!
We acknowledge the Lord's had in the details of missionary work and feel the power of combined prayer. Christmas remains always magical as we visit modestly decorated missionary apartments and feel the Spirit testify of greatness in their lives of service.
