Missionary Medical Training SLC, UT and Office Training MTC
There were an estimated 2400 missionaries training with us last week at the MTC!!!
Saturday, we visited one of Rosie's Fairbanks cousins(Darrell) she had not seen in over 45 years. It was great fun to catch up on the family.
Sept 17th, Sunday, We attended the Parley 5th ward at the base of the Wasatch Mountains and felt welcomed there. Afterwards we visited two of Steve's cousins, Uncle Joe's daughters:Heidi and her husband and Jody and her husband. It had been over ten years since he had seen them.
Sept 18-21 Hyatt Hotel-Missionary Medical for Rosie and Steve (18th and 21st) Office training 19-20
Steve drove back to Provo for two days of office training on managing the housing and cars(if necessary). He enjoyed Elder Cook at the MTC Tuesday night devotional. Steve was taught to help the missionaries avoid problems and to manage opening/closing apartments/contracts/furnishings etc.
Elder and Sister Drake(retired OBGYN and wife) lead the computer training on programs and presentations. They have served several missions and were very prepared and helpful. We were taught about the triage model, scopes of practice, charting on the computer and how to find resources to help the missionaries.
Presentations on safety, mental health, disease prevention, orthopedic problems, ophthalmology, and Deseret Mutual Insurance added to our knowledge base of how the church medical system works. The nurses were given a tour of the offices where Mission Medical employs 12 nurses who manage the claims from the missionaries. The Church is self insured and keeps a tight cap on what is and is not covered because they funds are sacred tithing offerings.
Each presentation was both uplifting and awakening regarding the blessings and stupid things that happened to some disobedient missionaries.(Spider bites, bat bites, snake bites, accidents) Each presenter bore a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Obedience is the key to a safe and fulfilling mission.
